Telugu Association of Canberra (TAC) proudly presents “Raagam Taanam Pallavi” a singing competition on 26th February 2022.

It is an exciting opportunity for Telugu people in Canberra to showcase their musical talents.

It is a singing competition featuring Telugu classical and non-classical music.

Contestants will be judged against their peers in each of the categories – Classical and Non-Classical.

Raagam Taanam Pallavi Guidelines

Section 1 – Participant Category

  1. Junior – 5 – 10 years
  2. Youth – 11 – 16 years
  3. Young Adults – 17 years and above
  4. Contestants will be judged based on Shruti, Talam, originality, presentation, execution,

 

Section 2 – Singing Divisions

  1. The contestants will have 2 divisions of competition – Classical and Non-classical.
  2. Classical Singing – Geethams, Varnams, Keerthanas or Kruthis
  3. Non Classical Singing – Light Music, Film, Folk or Patriotic.
  4. Contestants can participate in Classical or Non-Classical categories or both.
  5. ***** NEW FOR YOU ***** Not up for competition….no issues…..just rock up and sing your favourite song.

 

NOTE: Only 1 song per person.

 

Section 3 – Awards

  1. Computation of scores in each music category and for overall score will be determined by the total score of the judges.
  2. Two (2) prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd places of the Classical and Non-Classical singing.
  3. The announcement of awards shall be done on the day of the competition.
  4. All participants will receive participation certificate.

 

Section 4 – Singing Contest Format

  1. All contestants will be given overview of the contest format and rules, and announcement of music selections prior to beginning of the competition.
  2. In the event of a re–run, the re–run will occur at the end of that division heat.

 

Section 5 – Classical Singing Rules

  1. The contestants have choice of selecting their own songs, but it must be CLASSICAL.
  2. Song should be strictly classical with proper Sruthi, Pallavi and Charanam.
  3. Participant should know the name of the song, writer, raagam, thalam and Arohana/Avarohana.
  4. The total duration of song shouldn’t exceed 5 mins if so then the Judges will deduct points.
  5. Please BRING your own SHRUTI box.
  6. The rules are subject to change by Contest coordinator and Judges prior to event. All the rules will be notified to all contestants prior to competition begins.

 

Section 6 – Non-Classical Singing Rules

  1. In this category the song should be Light Music or Film or Folk or Patriotic song.
  2. To elaborate more on the light music, the song can be melody, fast beat, etc. Please note that Annamacharya, Ramadasu Keerthanas or Kritis any kind of Bhajans etc. don’t fall into this category, for the purpose of this competition.
  3. Participant should sing FULL song i.e. Pallavi and Charanams.
  4. The total duration of song shouldn’t exceed 5 mins if so then the Judges will deduct points.
  5. Song should be sung in Telugu language (No other languages are allowed)
  6. Those who are singing with Karaoke tracks, please send the track in MP3 format by 20th February 2022 to either

Section 7 – Judging Criteria

  1. The panel of judges (3-4) will consist of either music instructors, professional singers, or singers with experience.
  2. All judges agree to judge in an impartial manner. Any conflict of interest shall be reported to and resolved by the contest coordinator.
  3. Judging will be done on a “Relative Placement System”. Each judge will have criteria to judge the performances either in Classical or Non-Classical. Final placement will be determined by judges and judge’s decision is Final.
  4. If the song is not the right category or exceeds the time limit of 5 minutes then the Judges will deduct points.

 

 Section 8 – Terms and Conditions

  1. Please read the Terms & Conditions carefully. If you register, we assume you agree to them.
  2. Registration is free.
  3. Please Register using the attached Google registration form by 15th February 2022.
  4. Raagam Taanam Pallavi is organised by Telugu Association of Canberra.
  5. Under no circumstances should the Classical and Non-Classical Categories be mixed up. (Please refer to Section 5 and Section 6 for further information)
  6. Songs must be in Telugu and not more than 5 minutes.

  

Section 9 – General Disclaimer

  1. The Judges decision is final.
  2. The organizers reserve the right to record or broadcast any part of the contests without any royalty payments to the participants or their related parties.
  3. The organizers will conduct the contest in a professional and civil manner.
  4. The contestants are expected to cooperate with the organizers by maintaining civility and not resorting to unruly conduct.
