Event Description.
As August –September months approach, people are all excited to celebrate the grand festival of India – GANESH CHATURTHI. We all get excited to buy or make Ganesh idol and bring home for celebrations. Amidst the fervor and celebration, we should not overlook the issue of water pollution with Ganesh idols.
In a bid to minimize environmental damage – TAC has taken the initiative about 4 years ago to make ECO-FRIENDLY GANESH IDOLS. Non-toxic, biodegradable CLAY blocks are used to make the idols. Clay is environment-friendly material which will decompose within a day or two. After “Ganesh Nimarjanam” the clay water can be used for irrigating the plants.
These few suggestions were given to all the parents and kids who came to participate in the events and were implemented successfully –
- No colors to be used to make the Ganesh
- Plant a seed in the idol and see it grow even after the festive season is completed
NOTE TO ALL – Next festive season, we will have idol collecting points where all can drop off their idols and TAC will take the initiative of doing the “Nimarjanam” on behalf of all the devotees.
NOTE TO ALL – Please do not throw the idols in Canberra lakes.
